Purpose
Right now, different software vendors output their digital materials either in a proprietary format or embedded directly in their 3D project files. And while various integrations already exist, there is a steady conversion that has to take place, different file types to manage and still a lot of incompatibility. Therefore, the Unified 3D Material is being developed as a bridge between software vendors in the fashion industry with the goal to replace proprietary material formats with a single open-source format.
Aligned visualization
U3M is based on a PBR shading standard, giving digital materials the same or similar appearance in every application.
Combined physical and visual data
U3M enables 3D CAD software vendors to embed their physical measurements directly into the file, simplifying the material creation process.
Efficient and lean workflow
U3M allows suppliers of digital assets to rely on a single fabric format serving all their customers, independent of the 3D application used.
